Nebo was a city in the north of Moab that was conquered by Sihon, the king of the Amorites, and is close to Mount Nebo. Nebo is mentioned in the inscription of Misha, the king of Moab who is in Divon, and that Misha returned it to the kingdom of Moab, and took the spoils of God’s vessels found there and brought them before Moses – the chief Moabite god. The area of Nebo returned to the Kingdom of Israel during the reign of Jeroboam II, but again moved to Moab under the protection of Assyria.
