Apollonia(Arsuf)

Arsuf (also known as Arsuf-Kedem) is an ancient city located on the Mediterranean coast of Israel, about 15 km north of Jaffa. It has a rich history dating back thousands of years and was an important center of commerce and culture during the Phoenician and Roman periods.

In biblical times, Arsuf was known as Apollonia, and it was mentioned in the New Testament as the site of a meeting between the apostle Paul and his companions. During the Crusader period, Arsuf was a strategic stronghold that played a key role in the defense of the Holy Land, and it was the site of a major battle between the Crusaders and the Muslim armies in 1191.

Today, the ruins of Arsuf are an important archaeological site that attract visitors from around the world. The site includes the remains of a Crusader fortress, a Roman amphitheater, a Byzantine church, and a variety of other structures that provide a glimpse into the city’s rich and complex history.

In recent years, efforts have been made to preserve and restore the ancient city, including the construction of a visitor center and the development of walking trails that allow visitors to explore the ruins and learn more about Arsuf’s fascinating past.
