Heshbon is mentioned in the Bible as the capital of King Sihon of the Amorites, who ruled the area between the Arnon River and the Yabok River, past the eastern Jordan. At different times it was under the rule of Moab, Ammon and the Kingdom of Israel, today in the Kingdom of Jordan.
