Jericho

Tel Jericho is an archaeological site located in the West Bank, near the modern city of Jericho. It is believed to be the site of the ancient city of Jericho, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.

The site contains the remains of several ancient structures, including a large defensive wall and a fortified tower. It is also believed to be the location of the biblical story of Joshua and the Battle of Jericho, where the walls of the city were said to have fallen down after the Israelites marched around them.

Excavations at Tel Jericho have revealed evidence of human settlements dating back more than 11,000 years, including several layers of ancient city walls, as well as pottery, jewelry, and other artifacts. The site is also known for its unique geography, as it is situated in an oasis in the midst of the arid Judean desert.

Today, Tel Jericho is an important archaeological site and a popular tourist destination, with ongoing excavations uncovering new insights into the history and culture of the region. It is also a site of political and social controversy, as the West Bank is a heavily disputed territory, and has been the site of numerous conflicts over the years.
