Tel Esur

Tel Esur is an ancient archaeological site in Wadi Ara (Iron River) near Kfar Pins and near the memorial site for the martyrs of the Border Guard. In ancient times, it was located near the sea road, close to the springs of Ein Arvot. Its area is about 40 dunams and it rises to a height of 7-11 meters above sea level. The Hebrew name is taken from the Arabic name – Tel Aswir, “Pearl Hill”.

The Mount Menashe survey headed by Prof. Adam Zertal found archaeological findings from the Middle Bronze Age, the Iron Age, and the Persian period. Zertal revealed a 3.5-meter-high wall with impressive paving at its base. In contrast to the fortification systems from this period found on the coast of Israel, which were built of tin bricks, and only in Tel Asor is there a stone structure.

In the excavations in the years 2010-2013, led by Dr. Shai Bar from the University of Haifa, findings from the Middle Bronze, Late Bronze, Iron, and Hellenistic periods were found. In the area where Highway 6 was paved, the site’s cemetery was discovered, containing many skeletons, various ceremonial vessels.
