Archaeologist Prof. Ben-Tor Talks about how Excavations at Hazor Validate Bible Stories About it

The ancient city of Hazor is mentioned in the Bible as the “Head” of the Canaanite kingdoms when the Israelites began to conquer the Promised Land (Joshua 11:10). The Bible tells us that under the courageous leader of Joshua, the city was destroyed and burned with fire. But what do the archaeological remains at Hazor tell us about its destruction?

In this episode, Jeff interviews Archaeologist, Prof. Amnon Ben-Tor of the Institute of Archaeology at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, to learn about how excavations at Hazor are illuminating the Bible story of Joshua’s conquest of the Promised Land.

*PLEASE NOTE: After uploading this video, Prof. Amnon wanted us to clarify that at roughly 23:00, when he says “Now we are talking about 1000 years later,” what he meant is that the biblical text he is referring to was written some 500 years after Hazor was destroyed. The Philistines were in the region by the 12th-11th Century B.C., at the same tine the Israelites were settling.
