Lachish is regarded as the second most important city after Jerusalem in the Southern Kingdom of Judah and was strategically located on the Via Maris travel route. It was the last city conquered by the Assyrians before they set their sites on Jerusalem. However, God had other plans and supernaturally intervened and killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers.
