Til Barsip

An ancient city on the banks of the Euphrates River, dating back to the Neolithic period. In the Late Bronze Age it was part of the Hittite kingdom and was called Maswari. The kingdom was conquered by the Neo-Assyrian Empire during the reign of Shalmaneser III and renamed Kar-Shalmanu-Ashardo (“port of Shalmaneser”). In 611 it was conquered by the Babylonian Empire and lost its importance.
